Learning Traits

At Whinmoor St Paul’s, we have spent time considering not just the academic content that our children should learn but also the broader learning traits that they need to develop to be ready for the next stage in their education and beyond.

In our school we have chosen the following learning traits that we feel the children most need as they progress through their educational career, and that reflect the Christian nature of our school.

Courage

We want all our pupils to be courageous in their learning and be ready to take on a challenge.

Perseverance

When we try somethings difficult it can be easy to give up.  We provide opportunities for our children to persevere.  We value mistakes as a fantastic learning opportunity.

Curiosity

We want our pupils to be curious.  Asking ‘why’ is fantastic and we encourage our pupils to be curious through asking and suggesting answers to ‘big’ questions.

Co-operation

Co-operation and teamwork is a fantastic skill.  Working together is a crucial element of the development of all pupils and we encourage teamwork throughout our curriculum.

Kindness

Our final learning trait of kindness relates especially to the fact that we are a church school.  We want our pupils to show kindness and compassion in all aspects of their life and is a key part of ‘Letting Their Light Shine’.

We have linked each of these learning to traits to our school-wide reward system, Class Dojo, allowing us to instantly recognise and reward when our pupils show any of these qualities in their time in school.
